Hi all!
I hope everyone is doing well and has had a nice summer. I just wanted to touch base with you all ahead of Quad Day and some of our scheduled activities this semester.
Quad Day Sunday, August 21st from Noon to 4 PM
- We do have a booth allotted to us this year for Quad day, and we will be receiving word on the exact location on Saturday. I will be sending a follow-up email as soon as I get notified of where that is. If you would like to help run our booth, feel free to show up in garb, with any of your projects or materials for the activities we do here in Caer Gwyn.
Info/Demo Night Tuesday, August 23rd from 6:30 to 9 PM
Illini Union Room 314 B (1401 W Green St, Urbana, IL).
- We will be having a combined info night and demo night of some of the activities we do following quad day. This night will replace our fencing practice reservation and it is unlikely that we will be having our regular open fencing practice that night since it will be the first introduction to newcomers. We will however be showcasing arts and science activities, board games, as well as showing some fencing and archery gear to newcomers. Assistance from students who regularly attended activities in previous semesters will be appreciated. Fencing practices this semester will resume the following Tuesday onwards.
First Archery Practice of the Semester Sunday, August 28th from 3 PM to 5 PM
Stock Pavilion (1402 W Pennsylvania Ave, Urbana, IL)
- Archers of any experience level (including first-timers) are welcome! 45-pound draw weight maximum for bows. Loaner equipment will be available for those who have none. Please bring your own water (we are not allowed to share).
First Fencing Practice of the Semester Tuesday, August 30th from 6:30 PM to 9 PM

- Archers of any experience level (including first-timers) are welcome! 45-pound draw weight maximum for bows. Loaner equipment will be available for those who have none. Please bring your own water (we are not allowed to share).
Middle Kingdom Academy of Defense Saturday, September 3rd from 8 AM to 8 PM
Stock Pavilion (1402 W Pennsylvania Ave, Urbana, IL)
- This is one of a few events being held here on campus that draws a larger regional crowd. Learn fencing techniques and skills from fencers all over the Middle Kingdom in classes run throughout the day. Vote for the fencer most deserving of Thorbjorn’s Favor. Learn in the scribal class “Ooh Shiny: Painting With Metallics on Black.” Fight in the Company of St. Jude Challenge. There’s a bit for everyone to do.
September Moot and Caer Gwyn Archery Championship Sunday, September 4
September Moot and Caer Gwyn Archery Championship Sunday, September 4th from 3 PM to 5 PM
from 3 PM to 5 PM
Stock Pavilion (1402 W Pennsylvania Ave, Urbana, IL)
- This is a semi-annual meeting among the local group for sharing arts and science projects, discussing plans for upcoming events, having a potluck, and holding our group championships.
- Even though this is the group championship, archers of any experience level (including first-timers) are welcome! 45-pound draw weight maximum for bows. Loaner equipment will be available for those who have none. Please bring your own water (we are not allowed to share).
I know there was a lot to digest in this post but I just wanted to make sure you all were aware of our events happening a bit further out after the radio silence over the summer.
Thanks,
